Sardinien

Sardinia! A dream of an island within the mediterranean sea. More a small continent rather than an island. The "standard"tourist considers more about spectacular beaches at the Costa Smeralda in the northern part of Sardinia. Far from it, the inner countryside of Sardinia is largely unsettled, wild and widely formed by limestone mountains like the Supramonte or the Gennargentu. Especially the east and south parts of Sardinia show a huge amount of karst formations - foremost large and beautiful caves!
In accordance to the southern location as well as the warm temperatures, most of the caves are fantastically decorated. Among them are one of the best caves of whole Europe, like Bue Marino, Su Palu or Su Bentu, which are a must for each speleologist!.
Most of the caves are naturally "protected, as the major problem is a direct result of the wilderness and untouched nature: how to find the caves? Additionally, some of the most beautiful caves are closed. Thereof, contacts to local cavers are imperative.
Nevertheless, beside caving, Sardinia is worth visiting: hiking, climbing, canyoning as well as crystal clear and uncrowded beaches. And not to forget, the cuisine of Sardinia, which focuses on the most essential: meat and cheese!
